FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What Travelers Ask Us
How far in advance should I book?
For peak season travel (July–October), we recommend beginning the conversation at least 9–12 months in advance, particularly for journeys involving The Bushcamp Company's smaller camps or gorilla trekking permits in Rwanda, which are limited and competitive. Shoulder and green season travel can often be arranged with 4–6 months' lead time.
Do you arrange international flights from the US?
Yes. We can arrange the full journey from your home airport — international flights, all regional and charter connections, ground transfers, and everything in between. Many clients find it simpler and more reliable to have a single point of coordination rather than managing flights and ground arrangements separately.
What is the typical cost of an African Paths journey?
African Paths designs at the ultra-luxury end of the safari market. The camps and operators we work with — including The Bushcamp Company and Singita — operate at the highest international standards. A two-week Zambia journey for two travelers typically starts in the range of $25,000–$40,000 per person including all accommodation, meals, activities, and internal flights. We are always transparent about costs from the first conversation.
Is Zambia suitable for first-time safari travelers?
Absolutely — and in many ways it is the ideal first safari destination. Zambia's wildlife density is exceptional, the walking safari tradition means you experience Africa at a pace that reveals it properly, and the camps are intimate enough that first-time travelers receive a level of personal attention that larger destinations cannot offer. The Iconic Zambia journey is specifically designed as a compelling, manageable introduction to Africa.
Can you design a journey not on your signature list?
Yes — and this is central to what we do. Our signature journeys are starting points and illustrations of what African Paths designs, not a catalog to choose from. If you want a journey that combines Zambia with Botswana, or Namibia with East Africa, or any combination that serves your interests, we design it. The conversation is where we start — not a list of options.
Do you cater to families with children?
Yes, with appropriate care. Not all safari camps are suitable for young children — many of the smaller bush camps have age restrictions for safety reasons. We are transparent about these restrictions and will design a family safari that is genuinely appropriate for the ages traveling. We have designed multi-generational journeys, school-holiday expeditions, and milestone family trips across the continent.
